Adorie

Project overview
In 2020, e-commerce in Brazil registered R$ 105 billion in sales, just in the first 6 months of the year. Meanwhile, local commerce suffers the consequences of the pandemic, only in the city of São Paulo, sales in street businesses have fallen 53% in recent months.
Adorie allows local businesses to compete with major retailers, as it makes its products available online and delivers on the same day, in a few hours. Thus creating a new and better shopping experience, adapting to the new consumption habits without losing the personal touch of the customer to be able to buy at your favorite store.
My contributions
I joined the company early in the process and could participate since the initial conversations with potential customers and local stores until the creation of the user interface. I also could participate on the definition of the MVP working as product manager.
Discovery: research & analysis
For the research process, I talked with 12 store owners about the pain points of having a street business during the pandemic, and how they are affected by the restrictions of last year. I asked them about the decrease in sales they faced, the difficulties of selling using “Whatapp” and others communication apps, and how they dealt with financial issues. This helped me to better understand their difficulties and to start thinking about tools that the app could provide to help them.

With these firsts interviews, I discovered that the main issue was the time restrictions the stores were facing, some days they were only able to open 4 hours a day, and still had restrictions on the number of people allowed inside the store at the same time. Another problem is sales through “Whatsapp”, they take a long time to make this type of sale and the seller spends a lot of time serving a single customer. The majority of the stores don’t have a website for online sales, sometimes the owner is not an ‘online’ person and they have no idea how to start to sell online, and when they try some marketplace (Amazon, Magazine Luiza (BR), Mercado Livre (BR)...) the experience is not the best and they struggle with high fees imposed by this marketplaces.
Design: concepts & prototype
The main objective is to increase the exposure of stores, and create different ways for them to sell their products. Taking into account the pandemic scenario, where users can no longer go to stores freely to make purchases and are preferring to buy online. We want to increase sales at local stores, reaching their own consumers. In a next step we want to develop a way for retailers to create their websites in an easy and uncomplicated way, promoting a better experience than those already offered in the market.
redesign & design system
After some time the team understood the need of redesigning the application and create a design system that would increase the product team velocity through the ability to replicate the designs quickly utilizing the premade UI components. That decreased the inconsistency accross the whole application.
